19 May 2006 - Stuck in Kemer – postcard from Mags

We got stuck!

Kemer is very "alluring" as Barry put it when you are connected to their wi-fi network and can get Radio 4 live over breakfast each morning. We think we want to "get away from it all" but it is just too tempting to find out what John Humphreys is squeezing out of reluctant politicians back in the UK.

In fact we were forcibly held in Kemer as the technical team removed our batteries to power charge them and then took away the charger as they said it was faulty. This was sent to Istanbul but as no progress had been made after a week it was brought back to Kemer and then taken to Antalya where it was diagnosed as partially burnt out and eventually repaired. Whilst all this was going on we had several visits from the engineer to stop a fuel leak in a pipe joining two full diesel tanks. We enjoyed his visits as not only did he set his mind and hand to the horrible job of repairing the leak but he had a delightful sense of humour.

This forced delay in Kemer had it's good side. Instead of scurrying off before the EMYR boats arrived, as intended, we found ourselves included in the celebrations. We met some old friends from previous years and enjoyed seeing the excitement and high hopes of the participants and organisers.

During this wait I also spent quite a few hours in my anchor locker painting the depth markers on the chain. Not a job I enjoy particularly but I appreciate the result. Barry also tackled some useful jobs and greased the winches and the windlass

Well, the rally boats set off and two days later so did we. We have now left Kemer and are heading West visiting old haunts. Last night we were at anchor in the lagoon at Kekova and tonight we are back in the small port of Kalkan. Tomorrow we head for Gocek and the bays round Skopea Limani to meet up with our friends from Devon Roger and Felicity.
